We are very excited to welcome Anna Prokos, author of The Lucky Cake, to Woodloch this weekend! Anna will be doing a book signing this Saturday, December 10th at 2 PM and a book reading this Sunday, December 11th at 11 AM. The book features a special holiday story that the whole family will enjoy:
Children around the world celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa, but kids with a Greek background anxiously wait for New Year’s Day. At the stroke of midnight, Greek families cut a traditional cake that’s sweet and delicious. But this holiday cake is no ordinary confection. It holds a special golden coin surprise that’s said to bring a year of good luck to the person who finds it. Now, families can start their own exciting New Year tradition to bring good luck to those they love!
The Lucky Cake is a heart-warming story about a boy named Billy who thinks he will never be lucky. But as he learns about the legend behind this holiday tradition, Billy realizes how fortunate he already is! The book includes the author’s family recipe, so children and adults can bake together and begin a tradition that will delight familiy members year after year!
In addition to the reading and signing, Anna will have samples of the cake for guests to try and coloring pages so that children can design their own lucky coin!
Anna is also hosting contests in which guests can participate. For children, the contest involves writing a short 100-word story about an adventure Billy takes with his lucky coin. Please click here for contest details.
For parents, there will be a raffle giveaway. Parents can purchase the book and immediately be entered for a chance to win The Lucky Cake prize pack which includes: The Lucky Cake book, a cake mix, a Billy plush doll, a lucky golden coin, and a copy of “The Lucky Year,” to be released in April 2012.
