Woodloch Springs Sports Complex Brings Water Safety Awareness Program
State-of-the-Art Poconos Fitness Facility Brings Josh the Otter Program to Area Elementary Schools

Hawley, PA, June 14, 2017 – The Woodloch Springs Sports Complex in Hawley, PA is proud to announce its participation in the Josh the Otter program, the mission of which is “to educate children and adults worldwide about water safety through the utilization of drowning prevention campaigns and early childhood water safety training.” The program is a natural fit for the fitness facility that is a part of Woodloch Pines, an all-inclusive family resort. The Sports Complex features an indoor and outdoor pool, a swim school for all ages, group exercise and aquatics classes, and a full cardio and weight studio.

The Josh the Otter program was developed after the tragic drowning of a toddler named Joshua Collingsworth in his family’s backyard pool. Joshua’s parents created this program in his honor in an effort to educate parents and children about water safety and prevent the occurrence of drowning incidents. Part of this education effort involves reading the Josh the Otter book across schools and daycare facilities, a task that Erika Collins, Manager of the Woodloch Springs Sports Complex, and her colleagues, Josh Davis and Matt Hafler, have spent the past month doing and will continue to do.

“We are always trying to engage the local community as much as possible here at the Sports Complex, and we felt that the Josh the Otter program was the perfect way to do this. Learning about water safety is crucial in preventing accidental injuries and drownings, and we want to do our part to support this important cause,” said Collins.

Collins, Davis and Hafler have visited a variety of learning institutions across Wayne County, PA including first and second grade classes at Damascus School and Wayne Highlands School as well as the Learning and Growing Child Care Center in Beach Lake, PA. The next reading will take place in July in Honesdale at The Cooperage Project, a venue that hosts a variety of cultural and educational events for the local community.
