Folds of Honor & More | Giving Back to the Community

A military member on the golf course during a tournament, one of the ways Woodloch is giving back to the community.

The holiday season is often considered one of the most magical times of the year. From festive events to gift-giving to spending time with family, there are endless reasons why people love this season. However, this time of year is also about giving back. However, at Woodloch and The Lodge at Woodloch, we are committed to giving back to the community year-round. Keep reading to learn more about our charitable partnerships.

What to Know About Our Different Partners

We are proud to partner with four incredible organizations, each dedicated to helping the Poconos community and beyond.

Folds of Honor

The Folds of Honor Foundation strives to give back to spouses and children of soldiers disabled or killed in service. Through annual educational scholarships, the organization helps support tutoring, private education tuition, educational summer camps for kindergarten through 12th-grade kids, and higher education tuition assistance. Every year, we host the Folds of Honor Golf Classic at Woodloch Springs. So far, it has helped raise over one million dollars! Stay tuned for information about the next golf fundraiser.

For Pete’s Sake

For Pete’s Sake was created to help create respite experiences for cancer patients, their loved ones, and caregivers. These experiences give patients and their loved ones a chance to strengthen their relationships and recognize that cancer does not define them. We are honored to help provide families with opportunities to come together for those experiences. Our property will also be the site of the For Pete’s Sake Respite Center, which will offer transformational respite experiences.

Delaware Highlands Conservancy Green Lodging Partnership

Our resort is a proud Green Lodging partner. Through their reservations, our guests contribute to the Delaware Highlands Conservancy. This means our guests are directly supporting the protection of clean waters, recreational opportunities, and healthy land. Every bill paid during checkout includes a $3 donation to this initiative to help preserve the stunning area we call home.

BK Hope Cures

Conceived in 1999, BK Hope Cures strives to create hope for cancer patients. Founded by a cancer survivor, this organization raises funds to benefit cancer research and patient care. Our Poconos golf course is the site of the annual BK Invitational Golf Tournament. The two-day event includes golfing, a cocktail party, and dinner. We also host other events in conjunction with the foundation, including a 5K in June and BK Hope Cures Tricky Tray: A Night for the Cure.

Experience the Woodloch Difference for Yourself

At Woodloch and The Lodge at Woodloch, we are committed to being there for not only our guests but also the Poconos region and beyond. This is why we team up with organizations that are also committed to giving back to the community. Call 570-685-8000 to learn more about our partnerships and how you can help us give back.

A fun way to take in the sights while supporting local businesses is on a self-guided tour of nearby wineries in the Poconos.

Where to Go on Your Outing

There’s nothing quite like relaxing with a good glass of wine. See where some of the best vino in the area is made by visiting a local winery like the ones below.

  • Three Hammers Winery in Hawley was created by a husband and wife team. Stop by the tasting counter to try four seasonally pre-arranged wines or enjoy one of their other incredible experiences. Be sure to go for a stroll along the nature trail before heading to your next destination.
  • Head to Honsedale to visit one of the Antler Ridge Winery tasting rooms. Try one of their award-winning wines made using grapes found throughout the state. Extend your stay by pairing your wine with some delicious food offered here.

Another great way to discover fantastic Pennsylvania wineries is on an excursion with Renegade Wine Tours. There are three different tours to choose from, each one providing you with a chance to try exceptional locally-made wine.

How to Try Wine at Our Resorts

You don’t have to leave our Poconos resorts to find tasty wine. Learn more about wine and how to distinguish the notes that make each one unique at a Woodloch wine tasting. Undercover Angels in the Poconos

Undercover Angels Deliver Joy in the Poconos

“We make a living by what we get. We make a life from what we give.” -Winston Churchill

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. But in many respects, it’s also a totally chaotic time of the year. We find ourselves pressed for time, energy and resources as we cook and bake, clean and scrub, and shop for the “perfect” holiday gifts. We do all of this while simultaneously trying to enjoy lights displays, holiday concerts, television specials and more.

Despite all of the chaos, we all do our best to enjoy the season. But, perhaps there are even more fulfilling ways to celebrate.

The staff at both Woodloch Resort and The Lodge at Woodloch have proudly supported “The Woodloch Angel Tree” program for over two decades. Individual staff members and departments would select names and do some shopping for those less fortunate working within the Woodloch community.

The housekeeping team at The Lodge at Woodloch decided to take it a step further.

The Lodge at Woodloch Housekeeping Team

“Before Christmas of 2022, I had a meeting with my team,” says Linda Angermann, manager. “I asked the staff if they’d be interested in donating a dollar each day from their tips in order to adopt a child for Christmas. They all agreed and were excited to do so. We raised $150 to give a nice holiday to a child.”

Shortly after the holidays, the team met and had the idea to utilize this savings technique to span the entire year. Again, the team agreed. When the dust settled on a very busy 2023 at the Lodge, the team had raised over $2000. After a fun day of shopping, they were able to bring Christmas joy to over 15 children this year. Gifts were loaded into two large SUVs and sent on their way.

The team even had cash to spare. The remainder was donated to the charitable efforts of KidsPeace, which provides support in behavioral and mental health needs of children, families and communities. Across the Woodloch properties, 25 “angels” and several departments were able to bring a bright and merry holiday to 50 local children.

“My entire team is amazing all year long,” says Linda. “But they shine especially bright with their generosity around the holidays.  They are looking forward to breaking the $2000 mark for 2024!!”

Learn Something New at Pennsylvania Area Museums

Two people looking at exhibits in one of the Pennsylvania museums in the Poconos.

The Pocono Mountains region of Pennsylvania is known for its breathtaking natural beauty. However, the adventures here aren’t just limited to outdoor pursuits. For families planning their stay at Woodloch, there is no shortage of both indoor and outdoor activities on the resort grounds and the surrounding area. Set off on guided tours or be mystified by talented magicians. If you’re looking to sneak a bit of learning into your vacation, visit one of the nearby Pennsylvania museums.

5 Places to Learn about Area History

With a past including key events like the signing of the Declaration of Independence and hosting the Constitutional Convention, Pennsylvania has a long and storied history. An excellent way to dive into some of what shaped the state into what it is today is by visiting museums found a short drive from our Poconos resort.

  1. Found within the Upper Delaware Scenic & Recreational River Park is the Zane Grey Museum. The museum is filled with memorabilia, photographs, and books in the rooms that were the office and study of Zane Grey, an author regarded as one of the 20th century’s most popular Western writers.
  2. The Wayne County Historical Society is home to a full-size replica of the Stourbridge Lion, the first train to run on commercial tracks in the county. In addition to the main museum, this society also manages other museums like a restored country school and an old jail.
  3. Learn about the past generations of those who called the Wallenpaupack area home at the Wallenpaupack Historical Society. View historical artifacts donated by local families, some dating back to founding settlements.
  4. Dorfliger-Suydam is comprised of several attractions. The Dorflinger Glass Museum is home to the country’s most extensive collection of Dorflinger glass. The exhibits showcase more than 1,000 pieces of crystal.
  5. Another way to view stunning examples of craftsmanship from the Dorflinger Glass Company is at the Dorflinger Factory Museum. Located inside the restored cutting shop and factory office, the exhibits tell the history of the company and Christian Dorflinger.
