The Rules and Etiquette of A Military Wedding

Guest post shared by Stephanie Bates, blogger at Military Travel Mama

There is something special when it comes to military weddings. Something that differentiates them from regular, civil types of ceremonies.

Everyone who had an opportunity to witness one such festivity will confirm this. Either it has something to do with the sight of a just married couple walking down the aisle passing beneath the arch of swords or it has to do with all the military traditions presented and exhibited at the wedding – military-themed weddings indeed create a unique atmosphere and unforgettable experience for everyone.

Unusual Locations

First of all, if we’re talking about military couples, we can’t help but think of all the things they needed to waive and all the stuff they go through that ordinary couples doesn’t have to deal with.

Living a military life comes with a necessity of making big compromises and these couples often don’t see each other for months because of frequent deployments. Settling in one place comes very difficult for them, so is planning their wedding and arranging for a wedding location also.

So don’t be surprised if you’re invited to attend the wedding taking place on a military base or on some other remote but beautiful location, such as Pocono mountains for example. Remember that oftentimes military couples have no option and had to plan for it that way.

What Else is There For You to Know?

Well, if you’re lucky enough to be present at this type of wedding, then you should dress accordingly for an occasion.

It’s common practice for military weds to wear their military uniforms instead of traditional wedding suits at their wedding. If by any chance, the bride is the one serving in the Army, she doesn’t have to give up on wearing her wedding dress, but she’ll need to show respect and give credit to the Army. With that being said, it is common for them to wear military boots underneath their wedding outfit.

All of the other service members present at the wedding are welcome to show up in their military uniforms also, wearing all the medals and ribbons they were presented with during their service and military career. In these cases, wearing boutonnieres and similar floral decorations is not recommended.

Finally, if you’re not a military member but you’re still present at the wedding, you should wear your formal attire and preferably white. In order for people like you not to stand out from the rest, you can be presented with a nice custom military-styled challenge coin, which can serve as a beautiful memorabilia at the same time.

Challenge coins are not exclusive to the military nowadays. They find very broad usage with different types of organizations and on different types of events, such as this one. You can order your batch of uniquely crafted high-quality challenge coins from companies like Embleholics.

Is That All?

Certainly not! List of all the things you can experience and see on military weddings is very very long. It’s too little space for us to mention everything here. Instead, we will just give you a brief list of other things you’ll most likely witness when attending a military wedding.

  • Cutting a wedding cake with a sword, saber, or some other type of styled blade. Regular kitchen knives are out of the question.
  • Lots of patriotic elements present at the wedding, from raising the flag to singing the national anthem.
  • A ‘’table of honor’’ especially served for military members and positioned very close to the newlyweds.
  • Bride’s dress can have sewed military name tag, stating her new family name.

And the list goes on and on…

4 BLISSFUL WINTER WEDDING TRENDS AT WOODLOCH

Winter is coming to town and if you’re looking for the perfect wedding venue,  look no further than Woodloch Resort. Once you’ve decided to host one of the biggest milestones of your life at Woodloch, our wedding planners will help you through the process from picking the best venue options, taste testing, and everything in between to make your day the best one possible! We know that our resorts in PA offer much more than just a venue, especially as we’re an all-inclusive resort nestled in the Poconos Mountains. Here are a few winter wedding trends for 2018 that you might want to consider when planning your ceremony this season!

FROZEN FLORALS

With snow on the ground and the lakes and waterfalls have frozen over, we’ve found one of the prettiest trends this year – frozen florals. Whether it’s decorative ice cubes, with stunning ice sculptures, your guest’s jaws will drop in awe after seeing these floral arrangements. Embrace the cold this season, especially when you add your flowers to ice. We recommend trying edible flowers in ice cubes to serve with drinks and ice bucket for a fun touch of color. You won’t go wrong with this cool winter trend.

FAUX FUR

Winter in colder climates means you can pull out the showstopping looks of faux fur. Highlighting some of the pretty neutral tones, you can accent just about anything with a touch of fur. Include it as part of your gown with a faux mink wrap or use furry blankets to keep guests warm during your ceremony and reception. However you choose to bring the natural world to your wedding, we know it will be one for the books this year.

LOTS OF GREEN

Green has been a top color in 2017, and now that fall and winter are here, it can really shine. Whether that green comes in the form of velvet, a traditional fabric this time of the year, or it’s in your floral arrangements or even in details of your invitations and name tags, you’ll love incorporating all shades of this color into your dream wedding. We also recommend potentially adding an extra pop of color with red and holly berries as it will bring a festive touch to your event.

HOT BEVERAGES

It’s a given that hot beverages are must in the wintertime! Bring those delicious favorites right to your reception with a Hot Chocolate Bar, a Hot Cider Bar, or even an array of Mulled Wine for guests to choose. Let them spike it or keep it kid-friendly. No matter what you pick for people to sip on, let them warm up from the inside out with a toasty drink!

Woodloch’s family-friendly nature make it one of the leading venues for weddings. Whether it’s a ceremony for 200 or a small elopement for two, we’ve got everything here at one of the top resorts in PA for weddings, Woodloch Resort, to make for a blissfully wedded winter season!

Spa Provides Relief For The Bride to Be!

~Shared by Amy Newcomer

When my bridesmaids came to me and asked where I wanted to have my Bachelorette Party various places came to mind… and honestly, Woodloch was not one of them. The first things that come to mind about Woodloch were family friendly entertainment and activities – and let’s be honest, a Bachelorette Party is typically not a family friendly event!

THEN as the planning process continued, I decided that all I really wanted to do was spend a day at the spa. Planning a wedding is stressful and I wanted a relaxing massage. Let me say that again – I NEEDED a relaxing massage!

As I only planned to do this once, I wanted to make sure it was the best.  As we researched places to go, it turned out that one of the best destination spas in the world (yes that’s right, WORLD) was located right here at Woodloch.

The Lodge at Woodloch is a AAA Four Diamond property and has received accolades from Conde Nast Traveler as “#8 Resort in the US” and “World’s Best” and from Travel + Leisure as “#6 Destination Spa in the World.”  It certainly was well equipped to handle me and my group of friends.

I cannot say enough about our experience and how wonderful the service was – we had lunch at the TREE Restaurant in the private Chef’s Kitchen and then were whisked away to the Spa have our treatments.  I opted for the 50 minute Swedish Massage and it was spaaaamazing!  We also spent quality time soaking in pool and under the Hydromassage Waterfalls!

So whether you are looking for a place for a Bachelorette Party or hoping to steal a few hours to yourself on your next family vacation – I strongly encourage you to indulge yourself at The Lodge at Woodloch!!!
