Create Memories with Poconos Family Activities

A kid going down a waterslide, one of the best family activities at our Poconos resort.

One of the best ways to create lasting memories as a family is by going on vacation. Getting away from work, school, and extracurricular activities is truly the best way to spend quality time together. For a vacation you’ll be talking about for years to come, pack your bags and head to Woodloch. Considered one of the top family resorts in the country, our Poconos resort is filled with countless family activities. There’s even more adventure to discover in the surrounding area. Keep reading to learn more about some of our favorite things to do.

9 Things to Do on a Poconos Family Vacation

  1. Come together to see if you can beat other teams during Bakery Wars. You’ll be given supplies and a budget for more items that you’ll use to decorate cakes and other baked goods according to a specific theme.
  2. If the water is nice, head out on Lake Teedyuskung on one of our rowboats or paddleboats. Life jackets are required, and guests must be at least 13 to go alone.
  3. Say hello to the animals that call our petting zoo home. Get an up-close look at fuzzy critters like baby cows, lambs, rabbits, and sheep. There are also pony rides available.
  4. Let your kids blow off some steam at our indoor and outdoor kiddie pools. These spots were designed with our youngest guests in mind and include waterslides, wading pools, and squirt cannons.
  5. See if you can solve the puzzles and riddles to get out of the escape room before time runs out. While there is no age restriction, this activity is recommended for kids 11 and up.
  6. Check out our lineup of incredible entertainment. With everything from theme shows to live music to children’s entertainment, we offer a little bit of everything.
  7. Another fun way to see animals up close is at the Claws ‘N’ Paws Wild Animal Park. Open seasonally, this attraction in Lake Ariel is home to over 120 exotic and rare animal species.
  8. Explore the beauty of Pennsylvania on an outing with the Pennsylvania Rail Trail. This electric railbike takes you along the Lackawaxen River and can last either 10 or 20 miles.
  9. Embark on a memorable day trip. Go hiking in Promised Land State Park or the  Lacawac Sanctuary Field Station and Environmental Education Center. Head to Scranton to tour the Steamtown National Historic Site.

Flights, Bus, and Car | How to Get to Our Poconos Resort

A mother and son on one of the flights to the Poconos.

Between booking your room at Woodloch and creating an itinerary of all the fun you want to enjoy during your vacation, there’s no shortage of things to do before you arrive. Another important thing you need to decide is how you’re going to get to our resort. Whether looking up flights to the Poconos or mapping out a road trip, there are several ways to reach your final destination.

Plan a Memorable Road Trip

If you call the Northeastern United States home, a fun way to reach our Poconos resort is via car. The Pocono Mountains feature six interstate highways: I-78, I-80, I-81, I-84, I-380 and I-476. It only takes a little over two hours to reach our resort from New York City and about three hours to drive from Philidelphia to our Pennylsvnia resort. We recommend giving yourself extra time to explore stops you find along the way.

All Board the Bus

An often-forgotten mode of transportation is the bus. Martz Bus and Greyhound Bus both have stations and stops in the Pocono Mountains region. However, if you choose this option, you will need to figure out how to get from the bus station to our resort.

Book Your Plane Tickets

Depending on where you live, driving or taking the bus isn’t a realistic option. Luckily, there are several regional airports you can fly into. The closest large airport is the Lehigh Valley International Airport in Allentown, which has rental car services available on airport property. There are also several smaller regional airports, including the Cherry Ridge Airport, if you plan on chartering your own flight.

Between booking flights to the Poconos or mapping out your road trip, there are several ways you can reach Woodloch. Our family-friendly property in the Pocono Mountains is one of the best resorts in Pennsylvania for anyone looking to take a break from life’s distractions.

Folds of Honor & More | Giving Back to the Community

A military member on the golf course during a tournament, one of the ways Woodloch is giving back to the community.

The holiday season is often considered one of the most magical times of the year. From festive events to gift-giving to spending time with family, there are endless reasons why people love this season. However, this time of year is also about giving back. However, at Woodloch and The Lodge at Woodloch, we are committed to giving back to the community year-round. Keep reading to learn more about our charitable partnerships.

What to Know About Our Different Partners

We are proud to partner with four incredible organizations, each dedicated to helping the Poconos community and beyond.

Folds of Honor

The Folds of Honor Foundation strives to give back to spouses and children of soldiers disabled or killed in service. Through annual educational scholarships, the organization helps support tutoring, private education tuition, educational summer camps for kindergarten through 12th-grade kids, and higher education tuition assistance. Every year, we host the Folds of Honor Golf Classic at Woodloch Springs. So far, it has helped raise over one million dollars! Stay tuned for information about the next golf fundraiser.

For Pete’s Sake

For Pete’s Sake was created to help create respite experiences for cancer patients, their loved ones, and caregivers. These experiences give patients and their loved ones a chance to strengthen their relationships and recognize that cancer does not define them. We are honored to help provide families with opportunities to come together for those experiences. Our property will also be the site of the For Pete’s Sake Respite Center, which will offer transformational respite experiences.

Delaware Highlands Conservancy Green Lodging Partnership

Our resort is a proud Green Lodging partner. Through their reservations, our guests contribute to the Delaware Highlands Conservancy. This means our guests are directly supporting the protection of clean waters, recreational opportunities, and healthy land. Every bill paid during checkout includes a $3 donation to this initiative to help preserve the stunning area we call home.

BK Hope Cures

Conceived in 1999, BK Hope Cures strives to create hope for cancer patients. Founded by a cancer survivor, this organization raises funds to benefit cancer research and patient care. Our Poconos golf course is the site of the annual BK Invitational Golf Tournament. The two-day event includes golfing, a cocktail party, and dinner. We also host other events in conjunction with the foundation, including a 5K in June and BK Hope Cures Tricky Tray: A Night for the Cure.

Experience the Woodloch Difference for Yourself

At Woodloch and The Lodge at Woodloch, we are committed to being there for not only our guests but also the Poconos region and beyond. This is why we team up with organizations that are also committed to giving back to the community. Call 570-685-8000 to learn more about our partnerships and how you can help us give back.

Our lakeside resort, tucked away in the Pocono Mountains, is the perfect destination for families looking to enjoy as much quality time together before school starts back up. 1. Research Our Different Accommodation Options

At Woodloch, we understand one-size-fits-all lodging doesn’t always work. We offer several different accommodations because we host groups of all sizes and budgets. This includes hotel-style rooms, which are included in our inclusive rate plans, and inclusive plan on-site vacation rentals. For even more options, check out the Woodloch Springs vacation rentals. While all of these lodging styles are fantastic, one might fit your stay better than the others.

2. Create a Rough Itinerary

Between our on-site activities and things to do in the surrounding area, you never have to worry about someone getting bored. With so many choices of what to do, it’s a good idea to put together some kind of rough itinerary or list of things you want to do during your stay. This could include enjoying some of the last days of summer weather out in nature at spots like Promised Land State Park or playing a round at Woodloch Springs, our championship golf course.

3. Look for Ways to Save

The cost of vacations can add up quickly, but there are ways to keep things more manageable. One is looking to see what special offers are available before booking your stay. Another is looking for free things to do in the area while also taking advantage of all the things to do that are included in your stay.
