Cast Your Line Fishing on a Pocono Mountains Vacation

Two people fishing on a dock at a Pocono Mountains resort.

Sometimes, there’s no better way to spend your day than out on the water. For anyone planning their next getaway to Woodloch, there are several ways to explore the beauty of the Poconos from the water, like kayaking excursions and boat tours. For a fun yet relaxing adventure on your Pocono Mountains vacation, cast your line fishing.

Where to Go Fishing in Pennsylvania

Before you decide which of the incredible local waterways to fish in, it’s important you make sure you have a valid fishing license. These are required for anglers ages 16 and up, and you can purchase them online before your visit.

When deciding where to cast your line, there are several excellent options.

  • Our Poconos Resort is found on the shores of Lake Teedyuskung. We even have docks scattered on our lakefront that are the perfect place to settle in with your rod. These waters are ideal for catching perch, pike, walleye, bass, and sunfish.
  • Another great close option is Lake Wallenpaupak, which covers 5,700 acres. What you might find on the end of your line depends on what end of the lake you’re fishing. The northern end is known for walleye and a few types of bass, while the southern end is home to largemouth bass and bluegill. You can also find calico and perch in the middle area.
  • If you’re looking to catch trout, head to Promised Land Lake. The 422-acre spot is home to brook, rainbow, and brown trout. Other fish species found here include sunfish, catfish, and large and smallmouth bass.

Let Guides Show You Around

You don’t have to set out on a fishing adventure on your own! One of the best ways to increase your chances of reeling in a big one is by letting a Poconos fishing guide show you around. There are several knowledgeable guides to book through, including Ray’s Fishing Guide Service and Hooked Up Guide Service.

Make Memories on a Woodloch Escape

The memories you make on a Woodloch vacation can last a lifetime. Whether simply exploring downtown Hawley or fishing in a Pocono Mountains waterway, there are countless ways to spend quality time together as a family.

There’s also plenty of fun to be had at our Poconos resort. We offer more than 30 daily scheduled activities and events vacationers of all ages will love. Take a look at our tentative schedules to see what’s happening during your stay. When ready to book your stay, visit us online or call 570-685-8000 to learn more about our all-inclusive experience.

A Guide to Exploring Downtown Hawley, Pennsylvania

A little girl at the candy store in downtown Hawley, Pennsylvania.

Sometimes, unforgettable vacation destinations are closer than you think. If you’re someone who calls New York City or Philadelphia, the charming town of Hawley, Pennsylvania, is only a couple hours away. If you’re planning a trip to this picturesque town, there’s no better place to stay than Woodloch. On your next stay at our Poconos resort, spend time wandering downtown Hawley and seeing what fun you can find.

What to Do and See in Downtown Hawley

If you visited downtown before 2014, things look a little bit different. The area got a makeover courtesy of Benjamin Moore’s Main Street Matters Project, which helped repaint more than 20 local businesses.

Things to Do & See

There’s certainly no shortage of places to visit downtown that appeal to a wide range of interests. With its community-centric atmosphere, The Hawley Hub is home to numerous social gatherings and educational classes. It’s also home to a delicious coffee shop!

Depart on unforgettable adventures from the Hawley Train Station on an outing with Pennsylvania Rail Bike. Routes span 10 to 20 miles along the Lackawaxen River. Enjoy unbeatable views as you ride along the tracks named after Irad Hawley.

Give yourself plenty of time to wander in and out of local shops. This includes seeing what you can find in WeJo Arts, like hand-painted furniture, home decor, jewelry, and more. No trip to downtown is complete without stocking up on sweet treats at Penny Lane Candies & Candles.

Discover Local Events

Downtown is home to several popular area events. Celebrate the holiday season with Hawley Winterfest or the Winterfest Beer Tour. There’s also Last Saturdays, which is known for its street-fair atmosphere. Check the town’s calendar of events to see what’s happening during your visit.

Restaurants to Try

Before heading back to the resort, enjoy a delicious meal at one of the restaurants in Hawley. Browse the menu at The Crazy Country Club or dine at Joe & Lorenzo’s Restaurant, which has been around since 1981. We also recommend visiting Hopping Eagle Brewing Company, found just outside of downtown on Silk Mill Drive, for a cold beer.

Make Woodloch Your Poconos Home Away from Home

Found roughly 15 minutes outside downtown Hawley, Pennsylvania, Woodloch is close to all the activities and attractions that make this region so memorable. Our incredible all-inclusive experiences, which include cozy accommodations and dining plans, take the guesswork and heavy lifting off your shoulders. As you start planning your visit, be sure to take a look at our special offers and packages for ways to save. For more information, call 570-685-8000.

A Checklist of Free Things to Do in the Poconos

People riding go karts, one of the free things to do in the Poconos for guests at Woodloch.

Going on the vacation of a lifetime can be expensive. Between getting there, whether via car or airplane, dining out, and finding things to do, the cost can add up. However, a great way to save without sacrificing fun is by staying at an all-inclusive resort like Woodloch. This gives you access to countless activities. Staying at our resort also means you’re close to numerous other free things to do in the Poconos.

What to Do at Our Resort in the Poconos

Part of our all-inclusive packages includes access to over 30 daily activities. While some of these things require an additional fee, many are included in your stay. This includes activities like:

  • Saying hello to the animals at our petting zoo
  • Seeing if you can solve the puzzles and find all the items in our scavenger hunt
  • Riding around Lake Teedyuskung on a rowboat or paddle boat
  • Taking part in our athletic contests like beach volleyball and horseshoes
  • Racing around our go-kart track

The possibilities are endless. The best way to see what free things to do are available during your stay is by looking at our tentative schedules.

Other Things to Do in the Poconos

While you’ll never run out of things to do at Woodloch that are included in our stay, there are also plenty of free or inexpensive things to do throughout the Poconos.

  • Spend time exploring the Upper Delaware Scenic & Recreational River. Unlike other national parks, this site does not require an entrance pass. Give yourself plenty of time to explore the Zane Grey Museum or check out the Roebling Bridge.
  • See what you can find at a local farmers market. The best thing about visiting markets like the Wayne County Farmers’ Market or Hawley Farmers’ Market is you can control how much you spend.
  • Lace up your hiking boots and explore the Hawley Trail. This 5.5-mile trail starts at the D&H Canal Park and works its way toward Lake Wallenpaupack. Signs along the way teach you about the area’s history and ecology.

See How Else You Can Save on Your Poconos Vacation

In addition to taking advantage of free things to do in the Poconos, there are other ways to save on your getaway. When booking your stay at Woodloch, take a look at our special packages. We have incredible offers throughout the year, including discounts, promo codes, and last-minute specials. Call 570-685-8000 to learn more about any of these ways to save.

Get Ready to Tee Off at a Poconos Golf Course

Get Ready to Tee Off at a Poconos Golf Course

Two people out on a Poconos golf course.

As soon as temperatures start to rise and winter begins to fade into the background, golfers across the country start looking ahead to another season of fun. Now is the perfect time to plan your visit to Woodloch Springs. Available to guests at both Woodloch and The Lodge at Woodloch, as well as the general public, this nationally-recognized Poconos golf course is perfect for golfers of all skill levels. To help you have the best experience possible, we’ve put together a list of information that’s both helpful and important to know.

What to Know about Our Poconos Course

The Woodloch Springs course is 18 holes of championship-worthy play. The par-72 course stretches over 6,500 yards of fern-carpeted forest, board upland meadows, and lush wetlands. Recognized by GOLF Magazine as “one of the finest courses in America,” it also has been named one of the “best places to play” by Golf Digest.

Each hole has four sets of tees and alternating pin placement, so there’s a setup for golfers of all skill levels. Your skills are put to the test at the signature 14th hole, which requires a 220-yard carry over “Hells Gate Gorge.”

Rates for play vary depending on the time of year, and you can book your tee time online. Rental clubs are available at the Golf Shop, and we also offer practice balls. Before you arrive, we recommend reading up on our dress code, cancellation policy, and pace of play.

Ways to Improve Your Game

If you’re looking for ways to improve your golfing skills, you’re in luck. We offer several different ways to do just that.

  • The indoor simulator allows you to play nine or 18 holes. This is a great option if the weather puts a damper on your original plans or if you’re visiting us in the off-season.
  • Another excellent option is our golf academy. Our experienced instructors can help you improve your swing or ensure the clubs you’re using are the best fit.

Save on Your Golf Getaway

For anyone looking to play at our Poconos golf course, check out our Stay & Play package. This offer includes accommodations in a Woodloch Springs vacation rental, dinner at the Clubhouse at Woodloch Springs, and use of all facilities both here and at Woodloch, our premier Poconos resort.
