Cast Your Line Fishing on a Pocono Mountains Vacation

Two people fishing on a dock at a Pocono Mountains resort.

Sometimes, there’s no better way to spend your day than out on the water. For anyone planning their next getaway to Woodloch, there are several ways to explore the beauty of the Poconos from the water, like kayaking excursions and boat tours. For a fun yet relaxing adventure on your Pocono Mountains vacation, cast your line fishing.

Where to Go Fishing in Pennsylvania

Before you decide which of the incredible local waterways to fish in, it’s important you make sure you have a valid fishing license. These are required for anglers ages 16 and up, and you can purchase them online before your visit.

When deciding where to cast your line, there are several excellent options.

  • Our Poconos Resort is found on the shores of Lake Teedyuskung. We even have docks scattered on our lakefront that are the perfect place to settle in with your rod. These waters are ideal for catching perch, pike, walleye, bass, and sunfish.
  • Another great close option is Lake Wallenpaupak, which covers 5,700 acres. What you might find on the end of your line depends on what end of the lake you’re fishing. The northern end is known for walleye and a few types of bass, while the southern end is home to largemouth bass and bluegill. You can also find calico and perch in the middle area.
  • If you’re looking to catch trout, head to Promised Land Lake. The 422-acre spot is home to brook, rainbow, and brown trout. Other fish species found here include sunfish, catfish, and large and smallmouth bass.

Let Guides Show You Around

You don’t have to set out on a fishing adventure on your own! One of the best ways to increase your chances of reeling in a big one is by letting a Poconos fishing guide show you around. There are several knowledgeable guides to book through, including Ray’s Fishing Guide Service and Hooked Up Guide Service.

Make Memories on a Woodloch Escape

The memories you make on a Woodloch vacation can last a lifetime. Whether simply exploring downtown Hawley or fishing in a Pocono Mountains waterway, there are countless ways to spend quality time together as a family.

There’s also plenty of fun to be had at our Poconos resort. We offer more than 30 daily scheduled activities and events vacationers of all ages will love. The view of a lake in the Poconos, an example of stunning Pennsylvania nature.

One of the best ways to rest and unwind is by surrounding yourself with picturesque scenery. For those planning a getaway to the Pocono Mountains, there are plenty of ways to do just that. This is especially true if you’re staying at Woodloch or its sister resort, The Lodge at Woodloch. Explore Pennsylvania Parks

Some of the most breathtaking spots near our Poconos resorts are local and state parks. This includes places like Promised Land State Park, which features two lakes and miles of hiking trails. We also recommend visiting Bingham Park, which is home to the Hawley River Walk Trail. Found within the Delaware State Forest is the Bruce Lake Natural Area, home to Bruce Lake and Egypt Meadow Lake.

Where to Go Paddling in the Poconos

You have several options, including guided tours, for where to go kayaking when staying at our Poconos resort. In fact, guests at both Woodloch and The Lodge at Woodloch can go kayaking on our private lakes!

  • Lake Wallenpaupack is only about 30 minutes away. If you’re looking to explore part of the 5,700-acre lake, we recommend stopping by Poconos Action Sports, which offers single and tandem kayak rentals.
  • One of the most popular options is the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River. The best service for those looking to explore this body of water is Kittatinny Canoes – Barryville Base. Their unguided Delaware River trip includes all the necessary equipment.
  • Another option for those looking to explore the Delaware River Valley is Lander’s River Trips. Set off on a single or tandem kayak on a paddle trip lasting between two and five hours.
  • Northwest Wilderness Experience offers both guided outings and rentals for those looking to captain their own excursions. Kayak rental includes a life jacket and paddle; shuttles and deliveries are available for an additional fee.
  • If you’re hoping to explore the river that passes through the Delaware Water Gap National Area, check out Edge of the Wood Outfitters. Choose from a single, tandem, or inflatable kayak. Kids between 3 and 12 are only half-price, making this a great option for families.

A Look at the Average Weather in Hawley, Pennsylvania

A father and kids looking up the weather in Hawley, Pennsylvania.

No matter the time of year, there’s no shortage of things to do during a Woodloch vacation. Found in the picturesque Poconos region, our all-inclusive resort is known for four seasons of fun. While there’s no bad time to stay with us, certain seasons might fit your ideal activities better. To help you plan when to book your stay, we’ve compiled a handy cheatsheet of what the weather in Hawley, Pennsylvania, looks like throughout the year.

Spring

From March through May, daily highs start to rise. On average, you can expect temperatures in the low-70s during the day, with lows dipping to the mid-50s. See Mother Nature start to come to life by spending a day at Big Pocono State Park.

Summer

Summer in the Poconos can only be described as idyllic. Daily highs rarely fall below 60 degrees and generally sit around the mid-70s. Even daily lows are pleasant! Cool off by going for a dip in local lakes like Lake Wallenpaupack, or relax around the fire pit swapping ghost stories.

Fall

The cooler temperatures of fall are what give our landscape its golden and amber hues. Daily highs decrease to the mid-40s, which means you can still spend time outdoors as long as you’re dressed appropriately. Take in breathtaking fall foliage by hiking to area waterfalls. We recommend Little Falls or Bushkill Falls.

Winter

If you love the cold and snow of winter, our resort is the place for you. Temperatures are cold enough for snow to fly without hitting subzero conditions. All of this means you can enjoy popular winter activities, like snow tubing down our hill or skiing at Ski Big Bear.

Experience the Beauty of the Poconos at Woodloch

No matter the weather when you visit Woodloch in Hawley, Pennsylvania, there are plenty of ways to have fun. Our resort features daily activity schedules tailored for each season. This means regardless of when you visit, there’s always something to do that the whole family will love.

As an all-inclusive resort, these activities and amenities are included in your stay. Most importantly, our all-inclusive packages come with spacious accommodations and delicious dining options. Start planning your next visit by reserving your stay today.

Discover Fall Foliage on Hikes to Pennsylvania Waterfalls

One of the waterfalls in the Poconos region of Pennsylvania .

Tucked away in the Pocono Mountains, Woodloch is surrounded by breathtaking views and incredible examples of Mother Nature’s beauty. These picturesque sights are made even more stunning when they take on their fall hues. There are numerous ways to take in the fall foliage during an autumn escape at our Poconos resort, including visiting nearby Pennsylvania waterfalls.

A Checklist of 5 Waterfalls to Explore

As cooler temperatures start to settle in, leaves begin to change to golden and amber hues. While peak foliage season can vary year to year, most trees start to transform around mid-September before reaching their peak around early October. The best way to keep an eye on where foliage levels are is by looking at a fall foliage forecast.

There are several waterfalls within a short drive from our all-inclusive resort. We highly recommend adding one or a few spots to your leaf-peeping itinerary.

  1. Found inside Promised Land State Park is Little Falls. The 1.4-mile loop trail starts near the Lower Lake dam and features several creek waterfalls along the way. You can access the other side of the creek via a footbridge.
  2. Another popular option is Shohola Falls, which is visible as you make your way along the .6-mile loop trail. Thanks to its shorter distance, this is an excellent option for anyone visiting with younger children.
  3. Make your way to one of the two observation platforms to take in the three cascades that makeup Raymondskill Falls. This is the tallest waterfall in the state and features a trail that takes you to the top of the falls.
  4. Give yourself plenty of time to explore Bushkill Falls. Nicknamed the “Niagra of Pennsylvania,” this area is home to eight waterfalls, all of which are visible when you hike the Red Trail. For a shorter hike, walk along the Green Trail to view the Main Falls.
  5. Start at the on-site visitors center in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and walk along the boardwalk trail to Dingmans Falls. Make your way up the staircase to the upper falls for a birdseye view.
