Why the Pocono Mountains in the Fall Is a Photographer’s Dream

A woman taking photos in the Pocono Mountains in fall.

Vacations are the perfect time to create lifelong memories, and there’s no better way to capture and preserve those memories than with a photo. Not only is it a great idea to capture the joy on your loved one’s faces as they enjoy endless fun, but also the landscape that’s the scene of so much adventure. Visiting the Pocono Mountains in the fall is a photographer’s dream vacation for several reasons. Whether staying at Woodloch or its sister resort, The Lodge at Woodloch, it won’t take you long to discover why this spot during the fall is the perfect time to pull out your camera.

Vibrant, Diverse Fall Foliage

One of the best parts about fall is the stunning colors that take over the landscape. The Poconos boast a mix of hardwood trees, including maple, oak, birch, and hickey. This combination means an explosion of golds, reds, and oranges. The elevation changes also impact the foliage, creating a layered color effect. Go to top leaf-peeping spots like Prompton State Park or Route 6 Scenic Drive for breathtaking backdrops.

Dramatic Natural Landscapes

It’s not just the colorful leaves that make this area ideal for nature photography. From sweeping mountain vistas to serene lakes and waterfalls, the diverse scenery both on and near our Poconos resorts lends itself to creative compositions. Head to the docks to take photos of Little Teedyuskung Lake or Lake Teedyuskung. Places like Bushkill Falls offer epic backdrops that look incredible when surrounded by the vibrant hues of autumn.

Ideal Atmosphere and Mood

Autumn in this region brings crisp, clear skies and soft, golden light during sunrise and sunset. The sun’s lower angle creates warm, diffused lighting that flatters fall colors and enhances the texture. The cooler mornings also often bring mist and fog, creating a moody, ethereal quality to your photos. Embrace these conditions, which can help enhance the color saturation of your photos. Heading out on adventures shortly after sunrise or before sunset is known as Golden Hour, and is one of the best times of day to take pictures.

Surround Yourself with Mother Nature’s Beauty at Our Poconos Resorts

Now is the perfect time to book your autumn escape. When packing for your stay at Woodloch or The Lodge at Woodloch, don’t forget your camera! How to Experience the Flavors of Fall at Woodloch

A woman with a basket of apples, one of the top flavors of fall.

When you think of fall, certain things probably come to mind, like crisp air, changing leaves, and pumpkin patches. You may also associate certain flavors with the season. From pumpkin spice to apples and cinnamons, the flavors of fall are delicious. For travelers visiting Woodloch during the autumn months, there are several ways to taste the season, both on and off-site.

Visit Pennsylvania Orchards

One of the most quintessential fall activities is visiting apple orchards. There are two incredible options within a 30-minute drive of the resort, making them great additions to an autumn escape.

Stop by the farm stand at Ostrander’s Orchard in nearby Beach Lake to purchase crisp apples and fresh-pressed cider. You can also get other fall treats like jams and maple syrup. The stand is open seasonally from about Labor Day through Thanksgiving, but we recommend calling before heading over to check their hours.

Another great option is Rickard’s Cider Mill in Honesdale. Since 1929, this family farm has been producing incredible cider. Their season usually runs from late September through early November. In addition to cider, you can also find gourds, honey, pumpkins, and apples.

Try Seasonal Offerings at Our Poconos Resort

An easy way to try autumn flavors is by stopping by in one of our three dining rooms. All menus change daily, and dishes are created using as many regionally grown products as possible. This means our talented chefs use ingredients that are in season for everything from filling entrees to decadent desserts.

Learn how to make popular recipes yourself by reserving your space for one of our cooking demonstrations. Menus for the mid-week event reflects the season, so be sure to check back for updates on our fall offerings.

Create Your Own Fall Flavors in Your Poconos Rental

You can enjoy the flavors of fall from the comfort of your accommodations at Woodloch. Stop by The Market at Woodloch, one of our other on-site dining and food options, to get all you need to create spiced cider or a pumpkin roll. Any ingredients you can’t find at the market are easily found at nearby grocery stores.

To start planning your fall getaway to our all-inclusive Pennsylvania resort, check our availability and special offers. For questions or help booking your stay, call 570-685-8000, option 1.
