Woodloch Scouts Operation Cookie Drop | Woodloch Resort

Woodloch Scouts and Friends Fall-In for “Operation: COOKIE DROP”

Over the past few years, Woodloch has become a terrific escape for visiting scout groups.  They’re here to participate in our marquee events such as Scavenger Hunt, Winter Olympics, Cupcake Wars and more not only for the coveted gold medals but also for customized Woodloch badges that will soon be stitched on their sashes.  Needless to say, their presence is always known- their enthusiasm and laughter buzz like a nest of honeybees wherever they travel off to.

And of course, THE COOKIES. They always seem to have them in close reach.  For years, our scout groups would have some extra boxes here and there and simply leave them with staff as a “thank you” for a fun weekend (or perhaps as an underhand attempt at gaining a few more points for Scavenger Hunt… but who are we to judge?). Thin Mints became a staple in our break rooms.

As Woodloch employees, however, fresh baked goods are never really out of our reach- extra breads from the bakery are often left up for grabs to those who need it. As sweet of a gesture as it may be, the treats could be put to a better use. And those thoughts led to the creation of our annual “OPERATION COOKIE DROP.”

Throughout the “off-season” months, each visiting Girl Scout is given the opportunity to donate a box of Girl Scout cookies into our special “Drop Crate” located in our Main Lobby. Upon doing so, they receive a special gift from Woodloch as a “thank you.” At the end of the season, every last Samoa, Trefoil, Peanut Butter Patties and everything in between will be shipped overseas (through the help of our friends in “Operation: Touch of Home”) to the brave men and women serving in our armed forces.  Everyone is invited to drop hand-written letters into our mailbox for the soldiers as well.

The cookies are a warm and happy reminder of home, bringing comfort to those who may be in an uncomfortable place for some time.

They’re a reminder to our protectors of exactly what they’re protecting.

“They’re a small token of gratitude… but it’s a great way for all of us to start,” says Joey Ranner, Activities Director. “I have to smile every time we start initiatives like this- our guests (Scouts and non-scouts alike) spring into action and share that Woodloch warmth with others. Our collaboration has collected almost 10,000 boxes of cookies since we started the program in 2014, and we gain momentum each year. Watching a plan unfold firsthand reminds me of how fortunate I am to work with such good company.”

If you’ve outgrown your berets, fear not- we have extra cookies available to purchase on hand. While you’re at it, be sure to fill out “Letters From Home” to give a shoutout to your heroes!

10 Rainy Day Activities at Woodloch

Whether you’re visiting Woodloch Resort in the spring, summer, or fall, there’s always the potential for a rainy day. Other family resorts in PA may fear a thunderstorm rolling through town but not us! Our 1,200-acre resort has been thriving for over 60 years, so we’ve seen our fair share of rainy days. It didn’t take long to realize that we needed to create dozens of homegrown rainy day activities for families of all ages. Today, we offer everything from indoor bumper cars to art classes.

The Top 10 Rainy Day Activities at Woodloch Resort

On an average day, Woodloch Resort has over 30 homegrown activities available to all guests – and that doesn’t change on a rainy day! Our talented activity planners have become self-trained meteorologists over the years. If rain is in the forecast, they’ll effortlessly rearrange a day filled with rainy day activities such as cooking classes, arcade games, and bingo. So, without further ado, here are ten of our favorite rainy day activities in the Pocono Mountains.

  1. Indoor Splash Zone – While the Indoor Splash Zone is geared toward the kiddos, this unique water-filled play area is the perfect mid-day activity for those looking to have fun splashing around in gallons of gushing water.
  2. Bakery Wars – Teams of 10-12 self-proclaimed culinary geniuses will utilize each other’s strengths to create innovative, colorful, and delicious cakes!
  3. Bumper cars – Our seven-vehicle bumper car facility is home to one of our most popular rainy day activities. You’ll likely hear laughter, shrieks, and cool jams echoing through the hallways upon arrival.
  4. Ice skating – There’s never an off-season for ice skating at Woodloch Resort as our synthetic, four-season ice rink allows future hockey stars to “lace ‘em up,” even on a rainy day.
  5. Woodloch Feud – Woodloch Feud is equally amusing and challenging, as your team of ten must duel another family or group for a chance at “fast money.”
  6. Swimming – We have several indoor swimming areas scattered throughout our two Pocono Mountains resorts, including the Woodloch Springs Sports Complex and several kiddie splash pools.
  7. Escape rooms – We’re continuously enhancing the experience here in Hawley, PA, and we recently created multiple on-site escape rooms for those who are 13-years-old and up. Escape the Force, a Star Wars-themed room, is the latest crowd-pleaser here at Woodloch Resort.
  8. Kid’s Club Room – Join our dedicated Social Staff and check out this room stocked with all kinds of great activities, including Legos, magnet walls, puppets, puzzles and crafts. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to win medals during our special events!
  9. Art classes – We gladly collaborate with the area’s best art teachers to provide a wide variety of classes, including painting, drawing, and sculpting. Take home the finished product and hang it on the fridge!
  10. Shooting Barn – Woodloch’s safe and exciting Shooting Barn is the perfect place to wait out the rain. A trained staff member will be there every step of the way for your kids.

Resorts in PA | An Unforgettable Class Trip to Woodloch Resort

An Unforgettable Class Trip to Woodloch

Woodloch Resort on Lake Teedyuskung in the breathtaking Pocono Mountains is proud to host year-round class trips. Although many elementary, middle, and high schools offer occasional class trips, some students never have the privilege. We believe class trips are an essential educational bonding experience for everyone involved. At Woodloch, kids will learn to design and build as well as improve teamwork and social skills.

No other resorts in PA can match our dedicated staff, never-ending activities, and luxurious amenities. We customize every class trip to fit the needs of each specific group of gifted individuals. The kids will always be thinking, active, and entertained at Woodloch!

    Design Thinking

Treat your students to a friendly – and delicious – competition of Cupcake Wars. Let their imaginations run wild as they design a batch of tasty cupcakes. Each group will have access to sprinkles, icing, assorted goodies, and a pesky secret ingredient. The students can also learn hands-on insider cooking knowledge by enrolling in an educational cooking class. It wouldn’t be a class trip without a jewelry workshop in Boomer’s Kids’ Club Room. Each student can also take home their creative design!

    High-Order Thinking Skills

The Boat Building Challenge is one of our beloved team-building activities. Each team has 45 minutes to design, build, and sail a watercraft. The teams will be judged on creativity, design, enthusiasm, speed, and buoyancy. Woodloch Resort has a customizable Marketing Challenge where each team “purchases” a failing business then the students must market a new product using a unique commercial campaign.

    Cooperative Learning

Enroll the students in the Summer Olympics (or the Winter Olympics), our massive, signature, head-to-head competition. The kids will participate in a series of physical challenges such as frisbee, hurdles, volleyball, and soccer. Challenge your teams on the Low Ropes Course, a cooperative, two-session exercise ropes event. The Scavenger Hunt, a guest favorite, will test each student’s mind and spirit with a series of riddles, puzzles, and athletic obstacles. The Amazing Race is a mentally and physically challenging event for older students. The race utilizes over 135 acres of land as teams battle to various checkpoints.

    Environment and Social Bonding

Learn about the surrounding beauty of the Poconos with nature walks through our massive campus. With over 1,000 acres of wooded wilderness, other resorts in PA cannot match our natural beauty. We also have a Birds of Prey Program for those interested in eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, and osprey. Students can give back by helping build bicycles for charity!

    Resorts in PA

Consult our website for all-inclusive daily and overnight class trip prices. All packages include three hearty meals and endless fun from dawn to dusk. Woodloch Resort has proven itself to be the premier class trip destination in the entire Northeast, especially among resorts in PA. Start your class trip search with Woodloch deep in the heart of the Poconos!
