Tips for the Best Photos on Your Pocono Mountains Vacation

A woman taking photos of a waterfall in the Pocono Mountains.

Going on vacation is one of the best ways to create lifelong memories. From taking advantage of on-site activities to exploring nearby attractions, there’s no shortage of things to do when staying at Woodloch or The Lodge at Woodloch. Never forget the fun you had by capturing your adventures on “film.” To help you take the best photos possible during your Pocono Mountains getaway, we’ve put together a list of helpful tips and tricks.

1. Invest in a Digital Camera

While the camera on your phone can take decent images, there’s nothing quite like the images you get from a proper camera. However, that doesn’t mean you have to break the bank by getting some huge DSLR with multiple lenses. There are several budget-friendly point-and-shoot cameras that can get the job done!

    2. Think about How to Frame the Shot

Before taking your picture, think about how you’ve framed the shot. One of the best ways to compose your image is by following the rule of thirds. Pretend there is a three-by-three grid on your photo; you want your subject at one of these intersections. This will help naturally draw your eyes to the subject.

      3. Other Things to Keep in Mind

The best thing about using a digital camera is you have almost unlimited room for photos. Have fun and experiment with your shots! Take photos along our shoreline at sunrise and sunset to see which lighting you like best. Play with the depth of field or shutter speed at a nearby waterfall like the one inside Promised Land State Park or Bushkill Falls.

Witness the Beauty of the Pocono for Yourself

During your next vacation to Woodloch or The Lodge at Woodloch, bring your camera along. Whether exploring our properties or the surrounding Pocono Mountains region, there are endless stunning spots to capture in photos that you can look back on for years. Start planning your escape to our slice of Pennsylvania by calling 570-685-8000 to learn more about our resorts.

Road Trips from NYC – 3 Family Road Trips to Woodloch Resort

        Woodloch’s Blog

Keep up-to-date with all things Woodloch on our blog featuring exclusive recipes, heartwarming stories, lifestyle content, contests and more.

3 Family Road Trips to Woodloch

Woodloch Resort has become one of the most popular road trips in Pennsylvania for families from across the East Coast primarily because of our all-inclusive vacation packages, which include homegrown activities, daily meals, overnight accommodations, and live entertainment. Because we’re within a two-hour drive from Manhattan and Newark, we’ve also evolved into one of best family-friendly road trips from NYC.

For many families, the drive to and from a destination is an essential aspect of a family vacation! The pit stops, the kitschy landmarks, and the fast food are bonding experiences for families who rarely have the opportunity to get away together. And luckily for you, Woodloch Resort is a manageable drive from some of the Northeast’s largest cities: New York City, Philadelphia, and Baltimore. We’ve compiled a short list of worthwhile road trip pit stops to ensure that your summertime escape to the Pocono Mountains is nothing short of flawless!

        New York City

First and foremost, we’re within two hours from much of the New York metropolitan area, which amasses over 20 million residents. Millions of families (regardless of age) plan much-needed, well-deserved vacations every year, but there are only so many all-inclusive options out there, which is where Woodloch Resort comes into the picture. Road trips from NYC are time-saving, scenic, and easy to replicate. Here’s a short list of potential breaks from the highway:

        • Above the Clouds – Middletown, NY
        • Bear Mountain State Park – Bear Mountain, NY
        • Grey Towers National Historic Site – Milford, PA
        • Quaker Creek Store – Goshen, NY
        • Woodbury Common Premium Outlets – Central Valley, NY

        Philadelphia

Woodloch Resort is approximately 140 miles from Philadelphia, which typically amounts to a three-hour drive (depending on when you leave town). While road trips from NYC are quicker, the journey through Allentown and the Delaware Water Gap into the Pocono Mountains makes for a stunning drive. If you’re looking for memorable East Coast road trips during autumn’s peak, the trek from Philadelphia to Woodloch is tough to beat! Here are five things to do along the way:

        • Bushkill Falls – Bushkill, PA
        • Delaware Water Gap – Bushkill, PA
        • Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom – Allentown, PA
        • Pocono Snake & Animal Farm – East Stroudsburg, PA
        • Sweet Creams Cafe – Stroudsburg, PA

        Baltimore

Last but certainly not least, Baltimore is a four-hour drive from Woodloch Resort. The drive consists mostly of interstate miles as you’ll cruise through Harrisburg, Wilkes-Barre, and Scranton. This journey may be longer than from NYC and Philadelphia, but there’s a wide variety of family-friendly stops along the way, including a slight detour to Hershey!

        • Electric City Trolley Museum – Scranton, PA
        • Hershey’s Chocolate Tour – Hershey, PA
        • Hersheypark – Hershey, PA
        • The First Post – York, PA
        • The National Civil War Museum – Harrisburg, PA

        Family-Focused East Coast Road Trips

Woodloch, one of the top-reviewed Pocono Mountains resorts, has been welcoming families to its beautiful, secluded slice of natural wilderness for over 60 years. The Case for a Vacation Home Rental | Woodloch Resort

        Woodloch’s Blog

Keep up-to-date with all things Woodloch on our blog featuring exclusive recipes, heartwarming stories, lifestyle content, contests and more.

The Case for A Vacation Home Rental

There’s something to be said about the comfort of waking up on vacation or a getaway in a beautiful home as opposed to a standard rectangular box of a hotel room. Of course, you need the right situation to stay in a home and the home needs to suit the needs of your adventure.

We’re going to break down some of the positives of staying in a vacation rental home, and more specifically the value of staying under the umbrella of a resort, versus a hotel room and booking a home from a private owner directly.

        HOME AWAY FROM HOME

No matter how hard a hotel tries to make those gray accent walls and square rooms cozy and homey, it will still have a synthetic, cookie-cutter vibe. Staying in a vacation rental, you’ll often feel like you’re staying comfortably in an old friend’s house where the personality of its owners shines through.

        ACCOMMODATION DIVERSITY

Sure, a hotel room can have very nice decor, comfortable bedding, it’ll check all the amenity boxes you need, but a hotel room is a room, is a room, is a room. Private houses can offer so much more diversity. Diversity in style, design and of course decoration. You can go over the top and stay in the “home of your dreams” or you can try something a bit more unique, like a treehouse, or a boathouse.

        AN EQUIPPED KITCHEN

Cook your own meals. This offers those with special dietary restrictions an ample opportunity to get away without the worry of relying on a commercial kitchen to get their issues managed properly. Little kids, picky eaters? Take care of them easily here before you take the group out to a restaurant.

        IT’S ECONOMICAL

This is a great way to save money along the way. If relying on this kitchen to make your own meals, or just by splitting the cost between families or friends sharing the home, you can drive down the price pretty quickly.

        GROUP TRAVEL & MULTIGENERATIONAL

There’s so much more opportunity to spend time together in a vacation rental. Instead of having to awkwardly sit on a couple of queen beds and a desk chair, private homes will often offer up a common room or more for gathering space and a chance to connect. These homes serve as a great way to keep the party going, or reconnect with the family, catch up with distant cousins, or get some extra teambuilding in for your business retreat.

        STAYING AT A RESORT

You really can have the best of both worlds by staying in a vacation rental within the confines of a resort property. When you use a service like Airbnb or VRBO, there are a lot of unknowns to what you’re getting in to such as if you have to bring your own towels or sheets, what’s really stocked in the kitchen, and how much cleanup do I really have to do upon checking out? The resort option gives you the comfort of service, knowing someone responsive is on staff to help with your needs not to mention housekeeping on demand plus the added benefit of activity and action right at your fingertips.

As you can see there are a number of factors in the decision-making process of where to stay. If you looking for a place to get some extra face time with your family, friends or coworkers, if you need some flexibility and freedom in dining, if you want some extra space or something different, the vacation rental home might be the best money for value for you!
