What Should I Pack for a Woodloch Vacation?

Planning a vacation is fun, but when it comes to packing for said vacation, many of us are left questioning: what on Earth should I pack? This leaves many of us throwing things in our suitcases and overpacking. At Woodloch, we are here to help you figure out what to pack for your summer getaway and what to leave at home. Make sure to leave some room in your bag to bring home some Woodloch souvenirs. Here are the essentials for your summer vacation packing list:

The Essentials

We will not include everything you need to pack for vacation on this list. Odds are you already know what toiletries to pack, so we are going to focus on the clothes and other essentials you should bring. 

  • Shoes: We recommend bringing at least two pairs of shoes for your vacation. A pair of flip-flops are great for the pool area, and a set of sneakers are essential for our competitions and athletic events.
  • Pool Gear: Swimsuits are a must for summers at Woodloch! Feel free to pack a cover-up for your bathing suit but leave your towels at home; we have plenty at the resort.
  • Clothes for Layering: Chances are it’s going to be warm, so items like shorts and t-shirts are recommended. We recommend you bring some warmer clothes for layering and some nicer clothes for dinner and evening entertainment. Think smart casual!
  • Since you will spend most of your time outside, we highly recommend packing sunscreen and insect repellent.

The Extras

Woodloch has some resort amenities and additional offerings where you might be interested in bringing some extra items.

  • Golf Gear: If you are a golf lover, you will want to play a round at our championship golf course down the road. Pack the appropriate shoes, clothes, and any gear you might need.
  • Fishing Gear: Woodloch is located on Lake Teedyuskung, and you are welcome to fish as long as you purchase a Pennsylvania fishing license. Make sure to bring your nets, poles, and tackle boxes.

Attend the 2022 Woodloch Carnival!

Summer is right around the corner, and we are preparing for another incredible season at Woodloch. Summer brings our annual carnival where your family can try their luck at games to win fun prizes and souvenirs. This year we are hosting the British Mania Woodloch Carnival every week from May through September. Gather your family and friends and join us for classic carnival games with a twist like board games and mini pinball. See if you have what it takes to win at Woodloch this summer!

British Mania Carnival

Every summer, we develop a new and unique theme for our carnivals at Woodloch. We travel across the pond this year and bring British Mania to our family resort. Compete in our games to win golden tickets for items at our prize booth. We will be listing our available items online and on the Woodloch app soon so you can see what you can win! Here are a few games you can expect this summer:

  • Message in a Bottle: This is the classic floating duck pond game where you pick a duck to win a prize
  • Zombies: Celebrate the time of the season with fun, family-friendly board games
  • Eyes Without a Face: This carnival game involves shooting a ball off a board into different holes for points
  • Yellow Submarine: We couldn’t have British mania without a Beatles reference. Yellow Submarine is a putting game the whole family will love.
  • Name that Tune: Test your music knowledge with our carnival edition of Name that Tune
  • Pinball Wizard: Who is a pinball wizard? You are with our mini-pinball game!
  • Iron Maiden: This game is like PLINKO only with an exciting twist.

A Summer of Rock N Roll at Woodloch

Our British Mania Carnival will feature entertainment in the evening as well. After you’ve collected all your tickets from the day, head inside for live music. We are excited to welcome Xtreme Queen, one of the best tribute bands, to our resort this summer! This Queen tribute band will rock the stage all summer long with featured hits like Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You, and Radio Gaga.

Things to Do at Big Pocono State Park

Woodloch is nestled in the beautiful Pocono Mountains offering endless outdoor adventures for our guests. You could easily spend your entire vacation at our resort, but if you are interested in getting out and exploring the nearby area, then this post is for you! Big Pocono State Park is just over an hour from Woodloch and offers incredible hiking, mountain biking, and wildlife watching. Gather your family and discover all of the things to do at Big Pocono State Park!

Go for a Hike

There are eight miles of trails available for hiking at Big Pocono State Park. Most paths are rugged and steep since the park is on Camelback Mountain. If your family is up for the challenge, you will be rewarded with spectacular mountain views and local flora. Walk through forests as you look for wild blueberry, mountain laurel, and rhododendron on the trails.

Explore the Mountain Biking Trails

Embark on a bike ride in the mountains with the family! Mountain biking is available on the South Trail and North Lower Loop trails. Start on the South Trail, where you will bike steep terrain with a 600-foot elevation change. The route then connects to the North Trail Lower Loop, which offers a flatter and more leisurely ride.

Plan a Family Picnic

Big Pocono State Park is the perfect place for a summer picnic. There are three picnic areas in the park with tables and charcoal grills. Take in beautiful views of Camelback Mountain as you enjoy the summer breeze. Pack lunch, snacks, and juice boxes, and set up your picnic in the park together!

Watch for Local Wildlife

While hiking, biking, or enjoying your picnic, keep an eye out for local wildlife. Common species include rabbits, coyotes, deer, fox, raccoon, ruffled grouse, squirrel, and turkey. See how many wildlife species you can spot during your day trip at Big Pocono State Park.

Springtime in the Poconos is beautiful. When the snow melts, nature comes alive with blooming wildflowers and cascading waterfalls. Springtime is also one of the best times to see Poconos waterfalls and plan a getaway to Woodloch! There are several waterfalls less than an hour away from our family resort, so you can easily plan a day trip and see them all. Discover nature’s bounty in Pennsylvania this spring!

Shohola Falls

Shohola Falls is the closest waterfall to Woodloch and a great halfway point for the other falls on the list. The trail is a short half-mile loop, perfect for families with little ones. You will see spectacular views of this 50-foot waterfall throughout your walk on the trail.

Raymondskill Falls

Raymondskill Falls is the largest waterfall in Pennsylvania and a must-visit during your Woodloch vacation! At 150 feet tall, this waterfall is an impressive sight to see. Two trails lead to an upper and lower viewing area providing different perspectives of the cascading water. 

Bonus waterfall: Head across the street and hike Hackers Trail to see Hackers Falls!

Dingmans Falls

Fifteen minutes down the road from Raymondskill, you will find the second-highest waterfall in the state, Dingmans Falls. The trail is less than half a mile and offers views of two incredible waterfalls. Start on the wooden walkway until you reach Silverthread Falls dropping an impressive 80 feet. After you marvel at the falls, continue on the trail and watch for wildlife along the way. Soon after, you will reach Dingmans Falls where you can stop to sit on a bench and admire the view.

Bushkill Falls

Known as Pennsylvania’s Niagra Falls, Bushkill is a series of eight waterfalls. If you are up for a challenging hike, you can take the two-mile Red Trail to see all of the falls in the park. The falls include Bridal Veil Falls, Bridesmaid’s Falls, Pennel Falls, and Lower Gorge Falls. Have fun and happy hiking!
