How to Prep for Your Poconos Weekend Trip

A family packing for a Poconos weekend trip.

Whether planning a spontaneous getaway or a vacation that’s months in the making, there’s no better place to create lifelong memories than The Pines, Family Resort at Woodloch. Our all-inclusive resort in Pennsylvania is home to endless adventures the whole family will love. However, before you can start having fun, there is a bit of prep work you need to do to ensure your Poconos weekend trip is the best it can be.

1. Personal Experience Enhancers

When you think of pre-trip prep, the first thing on your mind is probably packing. However, there are other things you can do that’ll help enhance your experience. Print the daily activity schedules ahead of time so you can circle must-do events. Create a family playlist for car rides, downtime, and mealtimes. You can also pick up a small journal or scrapbook to capture firsts and memories, like your kids’ first boat ride or silliest family photo.

2. Make the Most of On-Site Activities

Our Poconos resort has over 30 activities scheduled daily, all designed around togetherness, competition, and fun. Try interactive contests and pool games led by our friendly social staff. Create the perfect keepsake at arts and crafts sessions. Try new games like shuffleboard and bocce ball, which are perfect for mixed age groups.

3. Think Outside the Box

Add a bit of extra fun to an already jam-packed agenda by creating your own theme days. Pick a day when everyone has to dress in a theme, like Retro Day, and look for activities that fit the throwback vibes. Another way to add to the adventures is by venturing off-site to explore nearby spots like downtown Hawley.

4. Put Together the Perfect Packing List

Once you’ve done all of the above, now is the time to put together your packing list. Having an idea of what you might get up to during your stay can help inform what goes in your suitcase. If you’re planning on hiking around our property or a nearby state park like Promised Land State Park, you’ll want hiking boots or sturdy tennis shoes and a backpack that can hold water and snacks. For more ideas on what to pack, check out our sample list.

5. Research Our All-Inclusive Offerings

Because The Pines at Woodloch is an all-inclusive resort, planning a Poconos weekend trip is a breeze. Make sure you are taking full advantage of everything in our inclusive experience by reviewing what’s included. Not only will you have access to our on-site activities and well-appointed accommodations, but you’ll also enjoy a meal plan with two to three meals daily.

A woman snowtubing during winter, considered a best time to visit the Poconos.

The Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania are one of the East Coast’s most beloved year-round vacation destinations. For years, families have made Woodloch their preferred home base. However, what is the best time to visit the Poconos and our resort? The answer really depends on what type of activities you’re looking to enjoy on your vacation.

Families with kids and those who love outdoor adventures will love staying with us in summer and fall. If you’re hoping for a quieter escape, book your stay in spring and fall. Keep reading to learn more about what you can do at our Poconos resort throughout the year to help you find the best season for you.

Winter

When the snow starts to fall, the Poconos turn into a winter wonderland. Explore our snow-covered grounds on snowshoeing adventures, or feel the thrill of our snow tubing hill. Enjoy seasonal activities like our Winter Olympics or Yule Log hunt. Warm up by the fire, or check out some of our indoor fun.

Spring

Spring is a quieter, more peaceful time to visit. See wildflowers and waterfalls like Shohola Falls come to life. Go hiking at Big Pocono State Park, or explore the on-site trails. Spring break is a great time for a family vacation if you’re hoping to avoid the large summer crowds.

Summer

Summer is the perfect time to visit if you’re looking to enjoy a classic mountain lake vacation. Go swimming, paddleboarding, or fishing on Lake Teedyuskung. Visit the animals that call the Claws ‘N’ Paws Wild Animal Park home. Enjoy a picnic lunch on our grounds or at Prompton State Park. No summer vacation is complete without ice cream from Harry’s Lakeside Scoops, our on-site ice cream shop.

Fall

If summer is the most popular time to visit, then fall is arguably the most picturesque season. Brilliant foliage transforms this region, making it a great time for nature lovers and photographers to visit. Discover Mother Nature’s beauty right on our grounds, or go leaf-peeping at nearby spots like Dorflinger-Suydam Wildlife Sanctuary.

The Lodge at Woodloch | A Pennsylvania Resort Rooted in Sustainability

Nestled in the scenic beauty of the Pocono Mountains rests The Lodge at Woodloch. This sister property to Woodloch is known for providing couples and other groups with a peaceful escape. Our resort isn’t just a place to unwind; it’s a place where luxury meets conscious living. This is why an integral part of the mission at our Pennsylvania resort is sustainability. Keep reading to learn more about how we help guests enjoy a rejuvenating escape while making a positive impact on the environment.

Sustainable Sourcing

One of the standout sustainability features at our Poconos resorts is the farm-to-table connection. Found only about a 10-minute walk from us, you’ll find the Blackmore Farm & Orchard. This spot provides a selection of vegetables and herbs for both our cooking demonstrations and dishes at TREE Restaurant. In addition, the garden provides items like rosemary and lavender for select spa treatments.

You can learn more about Blackmore by taking part in one of our gardening classes or Harvest Lunches and Garden Dinners. These seasonal chef-led tasting dinners and farmer-led harvest lunches actually take place at the Garden Shed.

Guest Participation & Amenities

Our guests also play a large role in our sustainability efforts. This is why we encourage guests to reuse towels and linens when possible. We provide reusable water bottles to both guests and staff. If you’re staying with us overnight, you’ll receive a reusable tote.

Waste-Reduction & Recycling

Throughout the years, we have instituted an array of practices to reduce waste. You’ll find large refillable bottles in the shower rather than small individual bottles, which helps us save over 50,000 bottles from landfills every year. We utilize compostable hot and cold cups, and have a composting program that uses food waste from three resorts to create fertilizer. We have a single-stream recycling program that helps us recycle cardboard, plastic, paper, and glass.

Learn More By Visiting Our Poconos Resort

The best way to learn more about how The Lodge at Woodloch in Pennsylvania is practicing sustainability is by seeing our practices for yourself. Book your stay in one of our luxurious, well-appointed guest rooms or suites. During your stay, you can enjoy an up-close look at how we strive to make our Poconos resort not only a premier destination for couples and groups looking to unwind but also an eco-friendly property. Call 570-685-8000 to learn more about reserving your stay at our resort in the Poconos.

A woman pouring a glass of wine at one of the wineries in the Poconos.

Whether staying at Woodloch or its sister property, The Lodge at Woodloch, there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy a bit of R&R. These resorts are surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of the Pocono Mountains, and there are several ways to get out and explore this beauty. A fun way to take in the sights while supporting local businesses is on a self-guided tour of nearby wineries in the Poconos.

Where to Go on Your Outing

There’s nothing quite like relaxing with a good glass of wine. See where some of the best vino in the area is made by visiting a local winery like the ones below.

  • Three Hammers Winery in Hawley was created by a husband and wife team. Stop by the tasting counter to try four seasonally pre-arranged wines or enjoy one of their other incredible experiences. Be sure to go for a stroll along the nature trail before heading to your next destination.
  • Head to Honsedale to visit one of the Antler Ridge Winery tasting rooms. Try one of their award-winning wines made using grapes found throughout the state. Extend your stay by pairing your wine with some delicious food offered here.

Another great way to discover fantastic Pennsylvania wineries is on an excursion with Renegade Wine Tours. There are three different tours to choose from, each one providing you with a chance to try exceptional locally-made wine.

How to Try Wine at Our Resorts

You don’t have to leave our Poconos resorts to find tasty wine. Learn more about wine and how to distinguish the notes that make each one unique at a Woodloch wine tasting. For our guests at The Lodge at Woodloch, we recommend sitting in on one of our wine and cocktail tastings, which are offered six days a week.

Enjoy Unbeatable Amenities on Your Poconos Getaway

Whether exploring wineries in the Poconos or checking out charming shops, there’s no shortage of things to do during a vacation to Woodloch or The Lodge at Woodloch. No matter which of our exceptional resorts in Pennsylvania you choose, you’ll have everything you need for the vacation of a lifetime.
