Get Outdoors | Visit a State Park in Pennsylvania

A lake view at a state park in Pennsylvania.

The Pocono Mountains region is the perfect destination for anyone looking to get “lost” in nature for a little while. Whether staying at Woodloch or The Lodge at Woodloch, our sister property, there are plenty of ways to surround yourself with Mother Nature’s beauty. In addition to exploring all the outdoor activities available at our resorts, there are several nearby natural attractions that are a must-visit for any nature lover. During your next visit, leave room in your itinerary to visit a state park in Pennsylvania.

3 Poconos Parks to Visit

The Poconos region is home to breathtaking scenery, and some of the best places to experience this beauty are state parks. These spots make the perfect day trip for anyone looking to enjoy a bit of exploration away from the resort.

Promised Land State Park

Perhaps one of the most popular options for our guests is Promised Land State Park. Found in Greentown, this spot is about 3,000 acres in size. The forests here are primarily beech, hemlock, maple, and oak trees. With two lakes and several small streams, there are plenty of waterways to go fishing and kayaking on. Other adventures to enjoy include hiking, biking, horseback riding, hunting, and more. There’s also plenty of fun to be had during the winter.

Prompton State Park

There’s also Prompton State Park in Prompton. This park is where you can find the gorgeous 260-acre Prompton Lake. With 26 miles of hiking trails surrounding the lake, there’s no shortage of paths that offer you stunning water views. Other things to do here include mountain biking, boating, and winter recreation.

Tobyhannan State Park

The furthest spot on our list is Tobyhanna State Park in Tobyhanna. The name of the 5,400-acre park is derived from an American Indian word that means “a stream whose banks are fringed with alder.” Spend time boating on the 170-acre Tobyhanna Lake, or see what you can find while wildlife watching.

Honorable Mention

While not necessarily a park, the Delaware State Forest deserves a spot on this list. Encompassing over 80,000 acres in four counties, the forest is filled with remote glacial lakes and bogs. Here, you can enjoy an array of plants, wildlife, and endless scenic beauty.

Recharge Your Batteries on a Poconos Vacation

It’s important to take a break from everyday life for a while and get away. If it’s been a minute since you’ve gone on vacation, now is the time to book your escape to Woodloch or The Lodge at Woodloch. Whether visiting a nearby state park in Pennsylvania or hiking on-site trails, there are plenty of ways to disconnect for a while.

Both of our Poconos resorts feature well-appointed accommodations, endless activities, and delicious dining options. However, one might fit your stay better than the other. Let our knowledgeable team help you find your perfect fit by calling 570-685-8000.

Explore on Two Wheels | Biking in the Pocono Mountains

A person biking on a Pocono Mountains trail.

Tucked away in the Poconos are two fantastic resorts for anyone looking to surround themselves with Mother Nature’s Beauty. Both Woodloch and The Lodge at Woodloch showcase the natural beauty this region is known for. No matter which resort you make your home base, there are plenty of ways to explore the Great Outdoors, both on and off the property. For an adventure on two wheels, go biking on a local Pocono Mountains trail.

Where to Go Biking in the Poconos

Guests at The Lodge at Woodloch have access to both guided mountain bike sessions and self-guided rides along the nature trails. However, where do you go if you feel like exploring off-site? There are several spots near both of our Pennsylvania resorts that are perfect for a biking adventure.

  1. Promised Land State Park is home to several multi-use trails, both dirt and gravel. The terrain is mostly flat and rolling, making it suitable for both mountain bikes and hybrids.
  2. The Lackawaxen River Trail is a relatively flat, rail-trail that runs along the Lackawaxen River. This path is great for families and relaxed cycling adventures.
  3. Prompton State Park is an excellent option for mountain biking. With 26 miles of trails, there are paths for beginner riders and those with advanced skills.
  4. For experienced mountain bikers, make the drive to Eales Preserve at Moosic Mountain. While this is the farthest spot on the list, it has over 15 miles of technical trails, making the extra drive time worth it.
  5. The Delaware State Forest is a large area with plenty of unpaved forest roads perfect for mountain biking. Because this area is less trafficked, you’re more likely to have the rugged trails to yourself.

Spend Time Outdoors on a Poconos Vacation

Biking in the Poconos Mountains while vacationing at Woodloch or The Lodge at Woodloch offers a perfect blend of outdoor adventure and scenic tranquility. This is just one of the many outdoor adventures you can enjoy when staying at our resorts in Pennsylvania. Play a round of golf, explore our on-site nature trails, and so much more.

Spending time outdoors on your Poconos escape is a great way to recharge your batteries. Start planning your retreat by researching our two properties to see which is right for your getaway. Both have well-appointed accommodations, delicious dining, and plenty of on-site fun. Call 570-685-8000 to learn more about either resort or for help reserving your stay.

The Pocono Mountains region is home to breathtaking scenery, including picturesque lakes. During your next summer escape at our Pennsylvania resort, spend a day out on the water, soaking in the sunshine at one of these three spots.

  1. Our resort is found on the shores of Lake Teedyuskung. The lake has roughly three miles of shoreline and can reach as deep as 30 feet. Explore the lake on one of our rowboats, kayaks, or sailboats. You can also go for a guided boat tour.
  2. Another popular option is Lake Wallenpaupack, one of the state’s largest reservoirs. Measuring 13 miles long with 52 miles of shoreline, there is plenty of room to go water skiing, boating, and wakeboarding.
  3. If you’re planning a visit to Promised Land State Park, be sure to spend time out on Promised Land Lake. The 422-acre Pennsylvania lake is ideal for fishing and an array of water activities. The state park is also home to the smaller Lower Lake, which is stocked with a variety of trout.
