Kids’ Night Out at Woodloch Resort: Fun After-Dark Activities

Woodloch’s Blog

Woodloch-Style Kids’ Night Out: Fun After-Dark Activities

We’re rapidly approaching Jack Frost’s inevitable arrival here at Woodloch, the country’s most beloved family resort. Soon enough, the Pocono Mountains will shed its autumn skin, and winter will subtly greet the land with fresh powder, crystalline hoarfrost, and oodles of holiday spirit. The fun never ceases at Woodloch, even in the heart of winter. And the midwinter savings are impossible to ignore, especially if you’re looking for a discounted midweek stay. Once the sun dips behind frozen Lake Teedyuskung, droves of families flock indoors for a warm family-style meal and some live, late-night entertainment. However, there are several other after-dark activities if the family feels the need to explore our massive indoor complex, including movies, games, crafts, and more. It’s the kids’ night out that your little ones never knew they needed!

A Kids’ Night Out in the Pocono Mountains

Every kiddo is different. It’s not easy to find an after-dark activity that everyone can agree upon. Thankfully, Woodloch’s all-inclusive packages allow the whole gang to find suitable activities that will leave a lasting impression on your long-awaited escape. We’ve pieced together unique nighttime pursuits that will assuredly lead to wide smiles during your next Woodloch-themed kids’ night out.

  1. Live entertainment – You don’t want to miss the night’s entertainment, ranging from themed shows to magicians and comedians.
  2. Horse races – Win prizes by selecting the victorious “steed.” These wooden horses may run at a snail’s pace, but the lively atmosphere is palpable.
  3. Woodloch Forest – Get “lost” in Woodloch’s indoor playground forest or play arcade-style games nearby.
  4. York Room movies – Grab some popcorn, find a seat, and let the movie magic begin! The York Room shows two movies nightly, ranging from Pixar hits to Marvel blockbusters.
  5. Ice skating – Lace up your skates and hit the ice inside our four-season rink. The 9,000-square-foot synthetic surface is an idyllic place to learn how to skate.
  6. Arts and crafts – If the littlest ones still have some energy after dinner, slip into the arts and crafts room. Sit back, relax, and watch their creativity soar!
  7. Arcade bunker – Hours upon hours of gaming awaits inside Woodloch’s “bunker,” home to various pinball machines, racing games, classic arcade systems, pool, and ping pong.
  8. Trivia contests – It’s always trivia night here in the Poconos. We take a wide variety of traditional trivia contests, such as Cash Cab, Name That Tune, Family Feud, and put a Woodloch spin on them.
  9. Silent DJ party – Woodloch’s staff-led, three-DJ silent party is a hit! There are enough headphones for everyone, including Mom and Dad. It’s the perfect exclamation point to a long-awaited kids’ night out.

Award-Winning, All-Inclusive Family Resorts

Hopefully, these 9 late-night activities give you a “taste” of what a Woodloch-style kids’ night out could look and feel like. Don’t forget that the Woodloch experience is all-inclusive, as all meals, accommodations, and (most) activities are included in the packaged price. We highly recommend keeping your eyes peeled for money-saving specials, especially during the cozy wintertime season. When the sun’s shining, the whole family can partake in dozens of homegrown activities, such as the Winter Olympics, snow tubing, and ice skating on Lake Teedyuskung. High-Speed Fun Under the Sun: Go-Karts in Pennsylvania | Woodloch Resort

Woodloch’s Blog

Keep up-to-date with all things Woodloch on our blog featuring exclusive recipes, heartwarming stories, lifestyle content, contests and more.

High-Speed Fun Under the Sun: Go-Karts in Pennsylvania

While most Americans cannot legally drive a car until their 16th birthday, the need for speed is inherent in all of us throughout childhood and early adolescence. Whether you wanted to become the next Dale Earnhardt or simply couldn’t take your eyes off of Lightning McQueen, it’s typical to undergo a “racing stage” where thoughts of blazing through the streets outweigh other pursuits. As we grow older, our love for racing subtly dissipates, primarily because of the countless hours obeying the rules of the road. However, there are several ways to feed your hidden yearning for velocity, including mountain biking, ATVing, horseback riding, and, of course, go-karting. Luckily for you and your family, Woodloch Resort owns a small fleet of go-karts in Pennsylvania’s glorious Pocono Mountains, less than two hours from bustling Manhattan.

Go-Karts in Pennsylvania: Unlimited Rides the Poconos

Searching for a resort that boasts complimentary go-karts in Pennsylvania is like finding a needle in a haystack. Enter: Woodloch Resort. Yes, you read that right: We offer unlimited go-kart rides from late spring through autumn. These speedy vehicles seat two people, so Dad or Mom can drive with one of the kiddos. Otherwise, anyone who is 48 inches or taller can drive our go-karts. The “Junior Karts” are perfect for adolescents in the four-to-five-feet range.

While our track cannot quite compare to the nearby Pocono Raceway, there are plenty of twists and turns that amplify the excitement. So, strap in, channel your inner Mario Andretti (who grew up in nearby Nazareth, Pennsylvania), and put the pedal to the metal this summer at Woodloch Resort!

The Need for Speed

While we boast a small fleet of go-karts in Pennsylvania’s dense backcountry, you don’t necessarily have to strap into a motor vehicle to feed your inherent need for speed. On an “average” summer day, guests can choose between 30-plus homegrown activities, including swimming, archery, bocce, fishing, and kickball. But there are also a plethora of thrills to be had in these outwardly peaceful mountains. Click the links below to learn more about the many ways to tip the speedometer this summer.

  • Archery tag
  • Bumper boats
  • Bumper cars
  • Paintball wars
  • Summer Olympics: run, swim, pedal, and more!
  • The Amazing Race, the ultimate test
  • Water skiing

A Poconos Family Getaway | Summer Draws Near

Whether you found us by Googling “go-kart places near me” or you’ve been visiting Lake Teedyuskung for decades, you’ll be happy to know that our carts are open year round. In the meantime, we’ve launched “Woodloch at Home,” an extensive video series highlighting a variety of classic Woodloch activities that you can easily try in the comfort of your home. Embrace the Outdoors: 10 Nature Activities for Kids | Woodloch Resort

Embrace the Outdoors: 10 Nature Activities for Kids

Children, not unlike adults, are complex beings. Each child’s personality is unique, like a snowflake. Much of our programming here at Woodloch Resort is geared toward family bonding, team-building, competition, and group collaboration, which suits social butterflies. However, we fully understand that some kids would rather meander through the wilderness and explore the region’s distinct flora rather than splash about with dozens of other giggling youngsters. It is only natural that we focus on Mother Earth in a time like this, as millions of Americans begin to rediscover the unique allure of this great land. To ensure that your next visit is nothing short of spectacular for the entire family, we’ve compiled 10 fun nature activities for kids (as seen below).

10 Fun Nature Activities for Kids

Some children naturally gravitate toward the outdoors. However, helping your child strike a balance between outdoor exploration and social interaction is vital. That’s why we simultaneously promote nature while also fostering healthy group interplay. These 10 on-site nature activities for kids are available nearly every day of the week:

  1. Guided nature hike: There’s nothing more soothing for the soul than meandering into the densely forested Pocono Mountains, with nothing but the soothing sounds of nature as your mid-summer playlist.
  2. Fishing: Throw a line into Lake Teedyuskung to snag a prized walleye or a feisty largemouth bass.
  3. Geocaching: Using the Geocaching app, let your kids explore the woodlands in search of hidden treasures. There are dozens of caches in the area.
  4. Birdwatching: Blue jays, cardinals, red-billed woodpeckers, and cedar waxwings frequent our sprawling 1,200-acre property.
  5. Nature scavenger hunt: After a couple hours of water skiing, swimming, and rowing, hide some fun prizes in the forest. Unlike most nature activities for kids, a scavenger hunt takes a lot of planning.
  6. Collect rocks: Each rock has a story. Thus, each shiny or jagged stone has potential to be a lasting keepsake.
  7. Insect hunting: Keep your eyes peeled for colorful butterflies, legions of ants, curious ladybugs, diligent bees, limber leafhoppers, and stoic dragonflies.
  8. Build a bonfire: Gather around Woodloch’s fire pit well before dusk to learn how to build a proper, well-constructed bonfire. There’s nothing more rewarding than roasting marshmallows above a fire that you helped build.
  9. Nature journaling: Many of us grew up loving to write. Why not take that passion and focus it on nature’s beauty? Making note of the five senses is always a rewarding challenge for adolescents.
  10. Photography: Capture the Poconos’ serene beauty without barely moving a muscle. Nature photography often harbors vital skills, such as patience, creativity, and attention to detail.

A Well-Deserved Poconos Family Getaway

Hopefully, these 10 nature activities for kids gives you a “taste” of what we can offer here at Woodloch, America’s top-rated family resort. All-inclusive family programming includes meals, lodging, and, of course, countless on-site activities, ranging from bumper boats to Summer Olympics. And, as one of the premier all-inclusive resorts in Pennsylvania, we saw a recent opportunity to add “Home Programming” to our repertoire. To learn more about a potential summertime escape into the Poconos, please visit us online at Woodloch.com.

Best Kid-Friendly Entertainment at Woodloch

You might find this hard to believe, but the best time of the year to visit the Poconos is during wintertime. Winter in New York City can be chilly and congested, which is why so many families cross the George Washington Bridge en route to Woodloch Resort for easy-on-the budget mini-vacations. Families choose Woodloch Resort because of our inexpensive winter rates, daily activities, and beautiful, scenic forest backdrop. There’s never a dull moment here in the Poconos, but there’s also time to relax and unwind at The Lodge at Woodloch’s world-class spa.

You’ll have the opportunity to finish each fun-filled day with an exclamation point as well. We provide nightly, kid-friendly entertainment which may include live magicians, comedians, music, and our Broadway-style Theme Show. Thanks to our all-inclusive meals, activities, and entertainment, we’re now one of the best kid-friendly resorts in North America. Join us in the Nightclub every evening for a performance that the whole family is bound to enjoy!

Magicians

Live magic has been captivating audiences, young and old, for hundreds of years. Magic remains one of the most exciting artforms in the world, especially for children. We highly recommend not missing a magical performance the next time you stay with us! Woodloch Resort has featured acts from three world-class illusionists, who never disappoint. If you’ve never seen a magic show, you’re in for a splendid treat!

Comedians

We’ve hand-selected over a dozen of New York City’s finest comedians to perform weekly here at Woodloch Resort. Many performers have made appearances on Comedy Central, sitcoms, late-night television, and “America’s Got Talent.” Emmy-winning, New York City-born comedian Milton Berle once said that “laughter is an instant vacation.” Berle was a smart man! Woodloch Resort is one of the only kid-friendly resorts in North America to provide live comedic acts.

Theme Show

Woodloch Resort hosts a yearly revue called the Theme Show, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year with the “Diamond Jubilee.” Some of the previous theme shows have been “Emmy Night,” “Back to the 80s,” and “Camelot,” and these past favorites are incorporated into the current show. The Diamond Jubilee commemorates our 60th year with live covers of James Brown, Bruno Mars, The Andrews Sisters, and many more! The live performances will feature songs that span over six decades.

Best Kid-Friendly Resorts

Winter is the perfect time to escape the snowy congested roads of New York City at one of the best resorts in the US.
